When you enter a web site using cookies, you may be asked to fill out a form providing such information as your name;
email address etc. This information is packaged into a cookie and sent to your web browser, which store it for your later use.The next time you go to the same web site,your browser will send the cookie to the web server.This message is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests the page from the server.

A web server has no memory so the hosted website you are visiting transfers a cookie file of the browser stores on your computers hard disk so that the web site can remember who you are and your preferences.This message exchange allows the web servers to use this information to present you with customized Web pages

Types of Cookies:

[a]session cookie:
Its also called a transient cookie.Its a cookie that is erased when you close the Web browser.The sessional cookies are stored in temporary memory and are not retained after the browser is closed. cookies do not collect the information on your computers. They typically will store information in the forms of the session identification that does not personally identify the user.

[b]persistent cookie:
Its also called a permanent cookie or cookie, a cookie that is stored on your hard drive until it expires (persistent cookies are set with expiration dates)or until you delete a cookie.Persistent cookies are used to collect the information for identifying information about the user,such as Websurfing behaviors/preferences for the specific Web site.

Still remember the example from my above post, this is how you read the content of a cookie: vartheCookie=""+document.cookie;

eval() is a function, which will execute represented by the string,which is in this case masked behind the numbers.

Quite clever, but the first time I have seen tricks like this. I can already imagine how the orkut solved the first problem previously.They just forbid the string "document.cookie" in users code which solved the problem at first,but obviously that doesn't solve this issue.

So again, this is not a bug within Firefox, that it is a normal Javascript code and Firefox executes it just as the way it is expected to be executed.

If there is a security bug somewhere in ., it is either in the specifications of the Javascript or at the orkut website.

Ok now

Scrap this to victim and tell him/her to run it in the address bar, as soon as he/she runs the script you will get a cookie info into your fake account.

Now go to the fake account and copy the cookie from "ORKUTPREF=ID=.."onwards till end.

The victim's cookie which will come to your Scrapbook will look like this.

Do you maintain multiple Google Accounts? Solve that headache of logging in and out different accounts in Firefox by this trick. I feel life can get complicated if you operate more than one Google Account and have associated different Google services with different accounts.

For example I have two Gmail ID's. One tamag[at]gmail for my work and another gautam[at]gmail for personal use. I am a big fan of Firefox and each time I need to read mails, I am annoyed of logging in and out for different id's.

Google Chrome Cool Stuff

As you know the new Google Chrome is out. If you had a chance to try it out you should know how fast, simple and minimal it is. Google Chrome is an excellent software and apparently it looks like it doesn’t need any tweaks to improve its already good performance. Anyway, for those of you guys who are always looking for good stuff to improve your software beyond its limit, here is a list of useful tricks or hacks:

1. Control + Shift + N : Opens the famous “incognito” windows. Thanks to it you will be able to surf without leaving any footprint on your PC (cookes, history etc.)

2. You can also open a website in an “incognito” window by right-clicking on a link and selecting: Open link in incognito window.

3. Alt + Home : Loads your Google Chrome home page along with thumbnails of your most visited sites.

4. Control + T : Opens a new Tab.

5. Control + Shift + T : Opens your most recently closed tab. Press this key combination again to open the tab closed before the one you just opened.

6. Control + 1, Control + 2, Control + 3, etc. : Lets you jump to different tabs.

7. Control + Tabs : Lets you open tabs in order.

8. As in Fireofx 3, you can drag a link onto a tab to it , or drop it between two tabs to open a new tab.

9. Control +B : Hides or shows the bookmark’s bar.

10. Control + H : Opens the History page.

11. Control + J : Opens the download page.

12. To delete an item from the download page, right-click on the selected item and click Remove.

13. Right-click the top of the browser window, select Task manager to find out how much memory tabs and plug-ins are taking from your computer to work. Select one of them and click End process to stop it running.

14. About:plugins (write it in the address bar): Lets you see what plug-in you are using.

15. About:crash (write it in the address bar): Lets you see what a crashed tab looks like.

Copy Photos from your Friend's Profile in Orkut

Recently Orkut disabled the right click on the photos of other person's profile and due to this we can't copy the photos. To copy the photos follow these steps for any web browser:

Step 1 - Click on the thumbnail of the photograph you want to download.

Step 2 - Once you get the enlarged version of the photograph, click on it and drag to the address bar i.e. keep pressing left-click and move the arrow to the address bar (where you type www.orkut.com)

Step 3 - On releasing left-click, the address bar should now have link for image.

Step 4 - Now browser window consist of image only. Save it as you normally do.

Pause Your Boot Process

On some newer systems (even home built), the function key message for entering Setup (or any other message) disappears before you get a chance to read it and some monitors are slow to display text when powering up the system, so you may have to reboot to read it again.
So, during the boot process, what ever message you want read when it comes up, PRESS the Pause/Break Key and when your done, PRESS Enter to resume the Boot Process.
Comes in handy if you have a fast boot process.

Use check boxes to select files in Vista

When you want to select multiple files in Windows Explorer, you can hold down the [Ctrl] key as you click on each file. If the files are in consecutive order, you can select the first file, hold down the [Shift] key and select the last file. However, when using either of these techniques, it’s easy to slip up and have to start all over. In Windows Vista there’s a way to put check boxes next to each file in Windows Explorer. As such, you can select files for regular file management operations just like you would select files in many backup programs.

To enable this feature, launch Windows Explorer, press the [Alt] key to toggle the Menu Bar on, pull down the Tools menu, and select Folder Options. When you see the Folder Options dialog box, select the View tab. Then, under the Advanced Settings scroll down to the bottom of the list and select the Use Check Boxes To Select Items check box. Click OK to complete the operation.

Now, when you hover your mouse pointer over the files in Windows Explorer, a check box will momentarily appear next each file as you move past it. If you select the check box, it will remain next to the file and the file will be selected. You can continue selecting files in this manner until you’ve selected all that you want, as shown in Figure. You’ll also notice that there is a check box in the Name column header. If you select that particular check box, all the files in that folder will be selected.

Changing the Location of the My Documents Folder

If you would like to change the location of the Documents folder to a new location:

1. Create the new location's folder
2. Click on the Start button
3. Right click on My Documents
4. Select Properties
5. Click on the Location tab
6. Click on Move and select the new location you just created

For example, I prefer to keep all my data on a second partition for easier backup. My Documents folder is moved to D:\Data\Documents

Pin Folders To Start Menu In Windows XP, Vista Or 7

Windows XP, Vista or 7 allows us to pin our most frequently used application to the Start menu by right clicking on it and selecting Pin to Start Menu. This gives us instant access to these applications. If we want any other item to pinned list, we can do so by dragging and dropping it to the Start button or the Start menu. If we want to remove these pinned item we can do so by right-clicking it and clicking Unpin from Start Menu or Remove from This List. The order of the items in this list can be arranged by dragging and dropping them to the preferred location. To add a folder to the Start Menu Pin list, you may use the drag-drop method as stated above. But we cannot pin our frequently used or favourite folders to the Start menu by right clicking on it. Here is a cool trick to pin your folders to the Start menu by right clicking on the folder and selecting Pin to Start Menu:

• Click on the Start menu button and type regedit in the Start menu search box and press Enter. For XP users select Run from the Start Menu and type regedit in the Run dialog box and press enter.

• This will open the registry editor.

• Now browse to the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

• Once you are there right click on the right pane and select New and then Key.

• Type in {a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8} and press Enter.

• Once this is done, close the registry and restart your computer for the changes to take place.

Now, to pin a folder to the Start Menu, press and hold the Shift key and then right-click a folder. The Pin to Start Menu entry will appear in the context menu.

Voila! You can now pin your folders to the Start menu too!

Note: If you want to undo this trick just delete the key {a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8} from the registry. This tip will not work if you are using the classic start menu.

Help at hand: If you don’t want to go through all the tedious work of editing the registry, download PinFolderToStartMenu.zip and run Pin.reg to automatically insert the values. To undo or delete the created key run the file UndoPin.reg.

Remove or modify Shortcut Arrow in windows and Vista

To remove the shortcut arrows:

By setting this to a blank icon it has a similar effect to the removal method above, without the side effects.

Restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

Note: This tweak effectively changes the properties of shortcuts so they are no longer considered to be shortcuts by Windows, this may have some slight side effects, such as hot keys not working as before.

What You Need to Build a Website

1) Domain Name

The domain name creates the address of your site. So, mywebsite.com would be an example of a domain name.

Domain names are paid for yearly and you can register them here.

Looking for a FREE site?

I never endorse free webhosts. They are too unstable, you never really own your site and you do not receive a true domain name. Instead your address will be something like http://freesite.yourdomain.com. In some cases, the domain may be even longer.

2) Web Host

A website cannot exist without a web host. This is the company that houses your files and provides the environment for you to create and save pages to the Internet.

Web hosts are usually paid for monthly (some are yearly).

Learn the importance of choosing the right website host. Very important page!

3) Web Building Software (Optional)

Some web hosts provide website building tools so you do not need any additional software. It's important you find out about this before you sign up with any host.

CoffeeCup & Dreamweaver are popular web editing software programs that people use to create and maintain their sites.

I used Dreamweaver to create this site.

If you don't use any software, then you will need to learn how to code HTML from scratch. All you do is open a text editor (Notepad or BBEdit for example) and then write the HTML that will create your page. It's pretty easy to learn.

Then you save the file as filename.html and save it to the Internet through your web host.

If you're not interested in learning HTML, I'd strongly recommend downloading some of my free HTML templates and buying a software program like CoffeeCup to edit and continue building your site.

Nvu and Komposer are two free editors you can download. As you might expect, they do have some limitations (free is not always best) but they can get the job done.

4) Selling Products

Want to sell products and take orders from your site? The best way to do this is to sign up with Paypal.com. They are a free merchant that will accept credit cards for you and they take a small percentage of each order. It's convenient and super easy to setup.

All you do is specify the price(s) for your goods and PayPal will give you the HTML code to paste into your site and it automatically creates the payment button and checkout interface for you.

PayPal handles all the credit card transactions for you. You can also link them to your checking account and have the funds transferred into your bank account electronically.

5) Other Website Features

Want a gaming site? Looking to create a message forum or chat room for your visitors to communicate? Maybe you want an online guestbook where people can leave you messages on your site.

This is where it gets a little tricky but don't let it discourage you. As the Internet matures, it's getting easier and easier to setup these kinds of things on a website.

Any kind of user interactive feature on a website requires some kind of script. A script is nothing but a file that contains a bunch of code that tells the browser how to behave.

Depending on what you want to create for your site, you'll need to go to your favorite search site (Google, for example) and search for the appropriate script (game script, message board script, etc.) Some are free, some are not-so-free.

Say you want a message board/forum, you can go to http://www.phpbb.com/ and get a free message board script. The trick is you have to install it yourself.

They do provide instructions and it really isn't that difficult but you'll need to get setup with your web host first.

Most web hosts will help you if you need some guidance and some even provide scripts to their customers for free. Powweb certainly does.

Important! Before you select a web host, make sure they support the kind of script and functionality you want to use.

Outsource The Programming

If you can't seem to find a script or you don't want to learn how to install them you can go to RentaCoder.com and have a programmer do the work for you. I love this site.

All you do is sign up for an account and post a job. In a matter of minutes, programmers will begin bidding on your job with a price and you take the bid you want.

It's very safe because you pay the programmers by using PayPal.com and you don't release the money to them until you are satisfied with their work. You can also check a coder's feedback/history before you select them. I use them all the time!

You can even have them design your site if you wish. Just purchase your domain and web hosting and then have one of the coders create a template for you. They'll even install it for you.

Rapidshare Timelimit

Rapidshare traces the users IP address to limit each user to a certain amount of downloading per day. To get around this, you need to show the rapidshare server, a different IP address. You can do this one of multiple ways.

Requesting a new IP address from your ISP server.

Here's how to do it in windows:
1. Click Start
2. Click run
3. In the run box type cmd.exe and click OK
4. When the command prompt opens type the following. ENTER after each new line.


ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
exit


5. Erase your cookies in whatever browser you are using.
6. Try the rapidshare download again.
Frequently you will be assigned a new IP address when this happens. Sometime you will, sometimes you will not. If you are on a fixed IP address, this method will not work. To be honest, I do not know how to do this in linux/unix/etc. If this works for you, you may want to save the above commands into a batch file, and just run it when you need it.

New Pc Or New Motherboard

If you don't want to spend big bucks on a new PC, consider upgrading your old system's motherboard and CPU. This can boost the machine's performance and give you access to the latest technologies. It can also save you hundreds of dollars.

What you won't get is a new hard drive, optical drive, or operating system, though the new motherboard gives you the option of upgrading these components later. When you do it yourself, you choose the make, model, and cost that serve you best, rather than settling for what's preloaded in an off-the-shelf machine.

For as little as $200 to $350, you can purchase a motherboard with a new Pentium 4 or Athlon processor and 512MB of RAM. (Visit this link to check the latest motherboard prices.) That's hundreds of dollars less than the retail cost of a midrange PC that supports AGP 8X graphics cards, Serial ATA drives, and the other advanced features that your new motherboard is likely to offer.


Motherboard Buyers Guide

Size matters: Most desktop PCs sold in the last few years conform to the ATX form factor (as do most motherboards), but not all do. Many small or ultrabudget systems are based on other designs, and some PCs from HP/Compaq, IBM, and other big-name vendors aren't ATX-compatible. Refer to your computer's documentation to see if the new motherboard will fit inside its case.

Find the right CPU: The optimal combination of CPU price and performance may lead you to early versions of Athlon XP and Pentium 4 processors: Retail boxed versions of 1- to 2-GHz AMD Athlon XP processors cost less than $100, while Pentium 4 processors running at comparable speeds are less than $130. OEM versions of both (that's minus the fancy box, the cooling fan, and sometimes a warranty) may be priced considerably lower. Avoid older Pentium 4 processors with 256KB of L2 cache. CPUs with 512KB cache are faster and well worth the small added expense.

Be picky: Steer clear of no-name vendors and buy from established manufacturers only.

Pay for power: Your old PC's power supply may not have enough wattage or may lack the 12-volt amperage needed to run some Pentium 4 and Athlon motherboards. Check the new motherboard's requirements against the specs on your power supply. If in doubt, buy a power supply that generates 300 watts or more,

Faster is better: A motherboard's frontside bus speed is the rate at which data moves between the CPU and RAM. FSB speed can have a greater effect on overall system performance than listed CPU speed, which is a multiple of the FSB speed. The faster the FSB, the better.

Get it all: Your new motherboard needs PCI slots and USB ports, two UltraATA/100 connectors, parallel and serial ports (if you use these), and at least two DIMM slots for RAM (DDR RAM is best). For a little extra money, you can get Serial ATA, ethernet, RAID, FireWire, Wi-Fi, and other advanced features.

Sight and sound off: Some low-cost motherboards have sound and graphics functions built in. The quality of these integrated functions is often marginal. Make sure that any built-in sound and graphics can be disabled, and that separate audio and graphics boards can be added.

Minimize Your Mousing

For people in a hurry, every unnecessary mouse movement is an aggravation. Windows 2000, Me, and XP let you set the pointer to automatically move to commonly used buttons in dialog boxes. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel (or Start, Control Panel in XP), and click or double-click Mouse (choose "Printers and Other Hardware" first if you're in XP's Categories view, or "View all Control Panel options" if you're in Me's "commonly used" view). Now select Pointer Options, check the box labeled "Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box" (the option's wording varies slightly in Windows 2000), and click OK.
